We have nothing but time.

Jay Z, aka Hov, says on Dead Presidents II, from the Reasonable Doubt album. He says in one verse “and I’ve got nothing but time".

Everything that you need of the future takes time. And it requires patience. Time and patience is all you need. If you dont have the patience, and you want instant gratification, you will get it all and lose it just as quick.

So use the time you have to build the blueprint of what you want, and work your way to achieve it. Build slowly, take your time. Review and refine. You will earn your dreams.

But dont worry too much about the future. Read Matthew 6:25 if you want to get caution for how and why you cant change anything if you assume a position of anxiety over your present circumstances.

Stay in the present, and learn from the past, and prepare and plan for the next day into the future. All your life has been preparation for your next day.

All of your past, informs what your future will look like. If you dont take stock, you wont learn, and you will bumble, grumble and keep on making the same mistakes.

Start writing things down.

Write your goals and ambitions. What you want for yourself and what you want for your family and kids. Take stock at the end of each month and at the end of each quarter.

If there are things that you havent accomplished, figure out the bottlenecks and review and refine, again.

Writing helps to give you a record. Keep a diary if you can. Plan your life and have your partner also share what their plans, dreams and ambitions are. It has been immensely helpful for me in reducing the anxiety that I used to have about the future.

When you work together, with your spouse or partner, working towards those goals, you will move a lot of mountains and remove friction from your relationship. And your discussions and conversations will start to include what you fear and what holds you back from achieving those goals. And as a unit, you will start ideating towards solutions to help each other along.

Creating a destiny is an act of effort. You have to put the work in and draw the blueprints. You are both the architect and the builder. God gives you the bricks and mortar.

You have to take a decision not to waste your life on bhunga bhunga talks and the politics of the day, and you have to stop being angry on Facebook. Those memes you are sharing are good for a laugh. Yes, life doesnt have to be all serious. But what are you building fam?

And I say this as a reflection of the time that we waste on things that dont make sense and that dont build us as a people. Because we have nothing but time, but time comes to an end, when our lives end.

But yet time still continues for those that we leave behind, until they also die. And if we leave them with nothing, they wont have anything to better the time that they have on this one earth, and other future generations are just as disadvantaged as some of us that inherited poverty.

Use your time, wisely.
