Think good thoughts.
As we close out the year. And what a year its been. Probably one that will feature in infamy into the future, and we will be telling everyone who comes hereafter about this one year when shit just hit the fan. If we remain alive.
And you know, when its all said and done, it was also a wonderful year, in which a lot of us reconnected and got closer, even when we were distant from each other.
For a time, we had the world in unison, and connected in fear, and later with optimism, about the human condition of community, society, family and belonging. And our united survival.
We connected over virtual platforms and we got to tell each other that we love each other, and sometimes just by checking in on each other. I dont remember yelling at anyone.
There are people that I hadn’t spoken to in years, and suddenly we found concern for each other and we reached out to each other. Sometimes to reconcile over some stupid or useless beef that neither one of us wanted to carry into death. And sometimes because we had got over the other’s mischief. And we squashed the beef.
I remember also, when we gained some of the liberties we had lost, we rushed into each other’s hugs and sprawled out into the countryside to regain our freedoms and be liberated into nature. I confess that the smoking ban may have been good guidance for some of us, if we had listened…
We went hiking, cycling and hugging the trees, climbing mountains and chasing waterfalls.
To lose the fat and the bulging tummies, you see?
Oh, was that just me?
We cant forget that fam. What a time to be alive.
And if we have learnt anything over this very dark time in the history of humanity, its just the simple reality of our yearn for human connections. And how we are all connected, and jointly miserable when we are forced to be apart.
And so as we end the year, I wish you safety and some reckoning, and reflection about everything that matters to you. And that you remain bound to all the humans that make you feel at home, on this one Earth, the only one that we know that gives life, and in which we remain alive.
Peace be with you fam.
